Turkey & Ribbon Applique Shirt

I love it when I see something, feel inspired, and then go out & make something. That's what I did with this project. I had seen this shirt pinned and I knew that I wanted to make it for Madison.
Follow along to see how I put mine together, and if you feel inspired to make one of your own, let me know, I would love to see pictures posted to my Facebook page!
Turkey & Ribbon Applique Shirt
Materials Needed:
Brown Shirt {or any color really}
Fabric-for the Turkey body
Fusible Interfacing
Various Ribbons
Black & Yellow Puff Paint
So like I said, when I saw this I felt immediately inspired to make one for Madison. So while we were at Wal-Mart, I grabbed a brown shirt. Granted, it's from the boys side {because they didn't have one in her size in the Girls section}, but I figured since I was making it girly, it would be ok.
Then I grabbed some brown fabric that I had leftover. I love being able to re-use scraps of fabrics for other projects. For the pattern part, I took some freezer paper and sketched out a bowling pin-looking shape. I then ironed the freezer paper to the fabric {instead of using pins}, and then cut out two of the shapes.
Next, I went to my ribbon box. If you've got girls, then you've probably got ribbon from making all sorts of bows. I decided on 7 different types of ribbon. This is the fun part where you can choose what you want.
I cut all my strips 8 inches long. From there I twisted them, and would pin them various distances from the edge of the fabric.
All pinned up-front facing view {what you'll see on the shirt}
After pinning, I sewed around the entire turkey to keep all the ribbon in place.
I then cut out a piece of the fusible interfacing and ironed it onto the backside of the turkey {not pictured}. I then layed the other piece of fabric and ironed the two together. This sandwiches the ribbon between the two fabrics.
Then, I cut out another piece of interfacing and ironed it onto the back of the turkey.
From there, I ironed the whole thing onto the shirt really good. I made sure to really iron it good considering the heat needed to go through a couple layers to fuse to the shirt.

I then zig-zagged around the entire turkey.
I made sure to zig-zag over the edge. From there, I picked out the original stitch I had done to hold the ribbon in place. I figured with the zig-zag stitched holding everything together, I didn't need the ugly stitch.
For the eyes & nose, I just used some puff paint that I had-give that extra dimension of cuteness.
And there you have it....A cute Thanksgiving shirt for your little Turkey!

Chicken & Pesto-Pepper Sandwiches

If you remember, I have this thing.....wait.....scratch that.  I have this love-affair with bread.  Yummy, delicious, rustic bread.  I could sit and eat an entire loaf of sourdough & be perfectly content.  When I was planning meals for two-weeks out, I wanted to have some sandwiches on Ciabatta Rolls.  Specifically the multi-grain Ciabatta Rolls from Sam's Club {because they're cheap there, but still delicious}.  So I tried to think of some yummy combinations that my family would enjoy.

And that's when this Sandwich was born: Chicken with some Pesto Mayo, Italian Cheese, and Sweet Bell Peppers; all on a toasted Ciabatta Roll.

What to know how I made it???

Come on, I'll show ya how!

Chicken & Pesto-Pepper Sandwiches

For the chicken part, I kept it real simple; I headed to Sam's Club and picked up one of their fresh rostisserie chickens.  Why you ask???  Because I've gone through my stash of cheap chicken, and nobody's had a sale to replace my freezer.  Plus, at a $1.67 per pound, the only labor that I have to go through is getting all the chicken off the bone.  Plus, this chicken will last us through another two meals.  So all-in-all, smart deal.

Next comes the star of my show, the Ciabatta Rolls.  You can purchase an 8-pack of them at Sam's Club for $3.99.  Again, these are pulling double duty in my house, using this package for two meals.

Slice the rolls open, place them on a sheet pan, and drizzle both sides with EVOO.  Toasted bread with EVOO tastes heavenly.

Next, pile on some chicken.

Now, you can add whatever kind of cheese you want, but....I used some of my favorite Italian Blend cheese to melt over the chicken.

Stick them underneath the broiler for a couple of minutes.  When you smell the Olive Oil, you know their done.

Next, prepare some Pesto Mayo.  At first, I was just going to make up some pesto sauce & mix it with the chicken, and then I thought it would be fun to turn it into a mayo & slather it on top of the bun.  Just taste some pesto & mix it with your favorite mayo.  Simple and easy.

Next, add some sweet bell peppers.  I always keep jars of sweet bell peppers in my pantry because I love them in my hummus.  The peppers add an interesting twist to the whole sandwich.

And some lettuce, and Wa-Lah!  You've got yourself a Sandwich!

This was very delicious, and my kids loved it!  They're kind of chunky, so I had only given my kids half a sandwich.  Jordan tore through one half, and wanted another one :)

I hope you try this out!  Enjoy!

Weekly Winners : Oct 31-Nov 5, 2011

-All shots taken with my Canon Rebel Xsi-
These are my winners for the week, go check out some other winners by clicking on the button below.

Halloween.  November.  Snow.  That's about it in our household this past week.

We enjoyed Halloween.  You can't go wrong with some pizza, "Boogedy", and Trick-r-Treating.

Trick-r-Treating with our Halloween Posse.

Our Stash.  It filled my gigantic bread-dough bowl.  And did I totally go through & separate the candy.....Yes.  Yes I did.

I woke up Saturday morning, came upstairs to find this.  The snow came through the night before & left all this white stuff.  I am now thinking that it's suppose to be December & Christmas time instead of November & Turkey time.

Thanks for stopping by!
