Mixed-Berry Lemon Pie

One must have patience when making a pie filling.

That is what I learned yesterday.  If you want your filling to turn out right, you've got to babysit the saucepan.  And it is worth the effort in the end.

I had this idea in my head.  Lemon & Fruit {wait.....aren't those the same???}...........ok, Lemon & Berries make a wonderful combination.  So one Sunday afternoon, I went on a culinary adventure.

I crushed some graham crackers

And melted some brown sugar & butter

Mixed those two together into a crust

I separated some eggs

And zested a lemon

I covered my crust with some berries-strawberries, blueberries, blackberries & raspberries.

And then I poured on some lemon pie filling

And after sitting in the fridge for a couple of hours, I had a delicious {although sort of messy looking} dessert.

Very scrumptious.

"Class of" T-Shirt

I've seen this shirt float around different blogs lately and thought that I would make one as well.  I had a white t-shirt, thread, & some puff paint, so I went to work.

First, I laid out a piece of paper onto my t-shirt, and with a fabric marker, I outlined my square.

I also used the paper as my guide to draw the red line.  I chose a blue marker for the outer paper because I would be sewing blue thread onto the shirt; this would also be the reason why the red line is red.

I sewed the red line down first, and then sewed blue all the way around.  Then, starting from the bottom, I went back & forth sewing lines.

We got a little crooked towards the end, but I liked it.

I then printed out my saying, and cut it out.  This was my template/stencil.  I used a fabric marker again, to stencil out my words.

And then for the fun of it, I add some puff paint.

And here's the finished product {after drying a couple of hours}.  Jaxson got way excited because I had made him a shirt :)

Later that night I realized that I counted wrong, and this little dude will actually graduate in 2025.  But who would really know that now ;)

I think my theme this week would be "Back to School" & "Water".  We started school this week, and my kids have been so excited.  We ended this hot week with a birthday at the Splash Pad.

My first grader

My baby

My Pre-Schooler

My boys

Reflections on the water

My little girl all summer has adamantly refused to go near any form of water {except for bath time}.....that is until Saturday night.  Her Father {my wonderful hubby} got her to go in & splash around.

The kids loved getting dunked.

Madi's Dress: Third times a charm

My Sister is getting Married!  Hallelujah!

So for this momentous occasion, and because we are a part of the wedding party, I am having to put together all of my family's outfits.  For the men {ie. my Hubby} they are going to wear: black shirt & black pants with a silver vest & pink tie.  For the women: any dress that we choose, her colors are black & pink.  For my two boys {because they are the only nephews} :the same outfits as the older men.  Easy enough....right???  Well see as I go searching for at least 3 matching pink ties.

For the little girls, I thought that I would give my hand at trying to make a dress.  There's 5 of them total, so my sis & I thought we could keep the costs low.  So we headed to Joanns & looked through the patterns.  The bride picked the one below....on the right.
B5443

Cute huh???  Imagine it with a black bodice top and pink cascading ruffles & a zebra trim.  Well....you would think that having a pattern would be easy???  This one was not.  I tried my hardest to understand the instructions.  I asked for help.  Even my talented seamstress of a sister-in-law had a hard time figuring out the patterns.  So in the end, I decided to scrap it.  Bye-Bye dress number one.

As I thought about what I could do, I thought that having a dress with tulle on the bottom would be cute.  So I grabbed some fabric I had left over & went to work.  This is what I came up with:

Cute. Yes.  But....the shirt that I grabbed to make this was a rib knit, and it seemed to not hold it's shape for very long.  Plus with all the gathering, it seemed like too much of an ordeal to try and make another one.

So I went back to the drawing board.  I remembered a tutorial that I've been wanting to do, and I told myself, "Why not".  So I headed to the store to pick up my materials & 3.5 hours later I came up with this:

Super Cute!

I don't know if my pictures do it justice.  I would take them outside, but my daughter has this thing with wearing dresses.....she doesn't like it at the moment.

The tutorial that I used was from Ashley @ Make It And Love It.  It was a great tutorial.  Her step by step instructions + her pictures made this very easy for me to do.

Haha..maybe I'll be brave enough and make one for myself.....

Oh George, You had it Right

Driving home from Denver a couple weeks ago, it was I that was driving across the Colorado landscrape; therefore, me listening to whatever I wanted. I decided to throw on some George Strait. Not one of James' favorite genres of music, but that kind of country reminds me of roadtrips I've taken with my family growing up. Anyway, with this one particular song came up, I sat in my chair and thought, "That is so true.....Mom's & Dad's".

A couple of days later, I decided to make something up that I could print off and have around the house somewhere:

Zucchini Week 2011: Dishes I want to Try {and maybe you will too!}

So.....after showcasing everything that I've done with Zucchini & nothing new to share {yet....I still have lots of Zucchini}, I thought I would show you some recipes that I've found that I want to try {and maybe you will too}.

The recipe looks easy enough, and I like muffins.

I thought this looked interesting, and I have basil growing so I can make the butter.

Looks & sounds good.

This would make a great side dish for dinner.

I've made Zucchini cakes once, and they didn't turn out so great.....these cakes look delicious.  I think my problem before was not getting rid of the excess liquid.

I was watching "Master Chef" the other week & they had to make a Souffle {for an elimination challenge}.  It looked so delicious.  This looks delicious.  And although I'm probably not willing to spend $10 of a pound of guyere cheese {that's a yikes! for me} & I'll probably switch it out, I really want to try this recipe.

Baked Chips.....Yes!
